Born in 1960 in Osh Region. In 1987 he graduated with honours from the Andijan State Pedagogical Institute of Languages, qualifying as a teacher of Russian language and literature and of native (Uzbek) language and literature.
On the strength of his research into pressing problems of literary studies, he defended two dissertations at the National University of Uzbekistan: for the degree of Candidate of Sciences in 1993, “Choʻlponning ‘Kecha va kunduz’ romanida xarakterlar psixologizmi” (Psychological Characterisation in Cholpon’s Novel Night and Day), and for the degree of Doctor of Sciences in 1998, “Choʻlpon poetikasi (nasriy asarlari asosida)” (Cholpon’s Poetics, Based on His Prose Works). He received the academic title of Associate Professor in 1995 and that of Professor in 2012.
In the course of his academic career Dilmurod Quronov has published three monographs, two textbooks, a dictionary of literary studies and three study guides. He has been the academic supervisor of three applied research projects and has published more than ninety scholarly articles in the national press.
His books on topical questions of Uzbek literary studies include “Ruhiy dunyo tahlili” (Analysing the Inner World), “Choʻlpon: hayoti va ijodiy merosi” (Cholpon: Life and Literary Legacy), “Istiqlol dardi. Choʻlponning ijtimoiy-siyosiy qarashlari tadriji” (The Longing for Independence: The Evolution of Cholpon’s Socio-Political Views), “Choʻlpon nasri poetikasi” (The Poetics of Cholpon’s Prose), “Adabiyotshunoslikka kirish” (Introduction to Literary Studies), “Gʻarb adabiy-tanqidiy tafakkuri tarixi ocherklari” (Essays on the History of Western Literary-Critical Thought), “Adabiyotshunoslik lugʻati” (Dictionary of Literary Studies), “Adabiy jarayonda ‘Mom sindromi’” (The ‘Mom Sindromi’ in the Literary Process), “Mutolaa va idrok mashqlari” (Exercises in Reading and Perception), “Zavqimdan bir shingil” (A Morsel of Delight), “Talqin imkonlari” (The Possibilities of Interpretation), “Adabiy oʻylar” (Literary Reflections), “Nazariy qaydlar” (Theoretical Notes) and “Adabiyot va b. haqida” (On Literature, etc.). His textbook “Adabiyot nazariyasi asoslari” (Fundamentals of Literary Theory), published in 2018, has been recommended by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education for use in the philology faculties of higher education institutions. Aesop’s fables in D. Quronov’s translation have also been published three times as a separate book.
Under his supervision and scientific consultancy, one Candidate of Sciences dissertation, four Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) dissertations in philology and one Doctor of Sciences dissertation have been successfully defended. At present three PhD dissertations are being prepared under his supervision, and one Doctor of Sciences dissertation under his scientific consultancy. He also serves on academic councils in philology.
The scholar has also been actively involved in preparing Cholpon’s works for publication. In 1994 he prepared the second volume of Cholpon’s three-volume collected works and provided it with commentary. That same year he took part in preparing the collection “Adabiyot nadir” (What Is Literature?). Since the Cholpon Foundation of Andijan Region was established in 1997, he has served as its chief specialist. In 2016 he led the group that prepared and published Cholpon’s collected works in four volumes, and he himself prepared the second volume of that edition, with commentary.
The journal “Ilmiy xabarnoma” (Scientific Bulletin) was founded in 2009 on Dilmurod Quronov’s initiative. He currently serves as its editor-in-chief.
